Epilectra Story Summaries: Adventures 1 - 6

BOOK 1

  • Eden, Epilectra’s human self, and her brother, Logan, are hit by lightning while visiting their parents in Philadelphia, leaving Eden with epilepsy and Logan paralyzed below the waist. They soon learn their disabilities came with unusual superabilities. Logan is now a techie savant, and teacher Eden can channel the seizure-causing electricity in her brain through her fingertips as lightning. With support from their Latino friend Angel, they create Team SEEZ (Support & Empower Everyone Zealously) for superheroes with disabilities they can turn into superpowers. Eden becomes the teams leader, Epilectra. Her first adversary is BlaqOut, a vanquished alien who cuts all power in Manhattan.

  • Eden leads her class on an Inuit adventure to the school’s snowy roof. They build an igloo, start a campfire with a bow drill, and have a snack of s’mores. She realizes that troublemaker Henry is missing and gets his BFF Joel to confess he’s snuck to the other side of the roof to see the playground from the 8th story. But Henry has slipped, and Epilectra must run – at the speed of lightning – to the playground below to save the day. Later, Logan and Eden fight about Eden taking Epilectra’s costume to school, and Eden has a seizure. The next morning, Henry’s fall and Epilectra’s rescue are front page news, and Eden confides in her mother that she is Epilectra.

  • Half man-half shark River Romer lives with sidekick Crusty the Crustacean in New York’s Hudson River, which he hates due to its small size and increasing pollution. He swims in angry circles causing the river to rise and flood the city. Crusty nicknames his friend River Ranger. The two swim into the now underwater city for fun. Meanwhile, the NYPD calls SEEZ for help. Epilectra flies the drone to the top of the Empire State Building and sends bolts down into the water, vaporizing it back to normal levels. On the ground again, she meets an oddly dry woman (New York was just under 30ft. of water). This is Insulator, who has diabetes and is insulated from outside dangers, including water. Epilectra brings Insulator to SEEZ where she becomes its newest member.

BOOK 2

  • Vanessa, a chemistry genius, begins high school at Bridgaton Academy. Everyone there is cruel to her (except that cute upperclassman girl, Quinn), so she runs away to New York, builds a lab in the sewers, and invents the Green Goo Virus (and its antidote) for revenge. The virus accidentally makes thousand above ground terribly sick, and the hospital calls SEEZ for help. Epilectra and Insulator find Vanessa (aka Virulant), destroy the virus, and talk her into bringing the cure to the hospital – where many surprises await.

  • Miles just wants people to leave him alone, so he keeps his eyes down and avoids contact with others whenever possible. This also prevents that weird thing from happening. But when Archie, the over-sized arachnid, sets his sights on a baby for dinner rather than the usual meal of city rats, Miles springs into action. He catches Archie’s attention, makes eye contact, and commands him leave the baby alone and wrap himself in his silk threads instead. Archie complies, toppling from the tree in which he's perched. Epilectra and Insulator witness Miles’ remarkable superability – called neuroplasticity – and bring him back to SEEZ where he’s invited to become a member of the Team. He’s given the superhero name Aupticus, a blend of autism, his disability, and optics, the requirement for his super-ability to engage.

  • C.P., or Chen Ping as his mother still calls him, works for Animal Rescue & Relocate. His most recent assignment was relocating a gigantic spider from Central Park to its own little island not far from Staten Island. Because he’s good with animals (and speaks Chinese), it isn’t a complete shock when the Mayor asks him to take charge of the live dragon designated to lead the parade welcoming Chinese President Moon to the city. What does surprise him, however, is that the dragon is LongWang, the Dragon King. Also, LongWang begs C.P. to help him get back to his homeland, China. The parade becomes a catastrophe when a firecracker explodes and frightens the already nervous dragon. C.P. is forced to use his cane – the cane he normally uses for his cerebral palsy, but also shoots muscle-freezing delta waves – to stop the beast’s rampage. LongWang falls, immobilized, on top of the Mayor. That’s when Endo-Girl offers her services, saying she sends the extra blood from endometriosis to her muscles to become super strong – strong enough to lift LongWang off of The Mayor. Epilectra and Insulator witness C.P. and Endo-Girl’s superabilities from a rooftop where they had planned to watch the parade. The superheroes now have two new recruits for Team SEEZ.
